ESSENTIAL PATCHING WORKS AHEAD OF MAJOR SIDMOUTH SCHEME

Vicarage Road in Sidmouth (A375) will be closed for three days next week for patching works.

The work will ensure that the road surface continues to be safe until a major scheme to resurface the road is delivered next year.

The road will be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pmfrom Tuesday 29 June 2021 to Thursday 1 July 2021inclusive. The patching work is on a 500-metre section of the road from the Vicarage Road/All Saints Road Roundabout to Brewery Lane.

A signed diversion route will be in place via All Saints Road, B3176, The Bowd, A3052 and A375 and vice versa, although local motorists may find alternative routes.

During this time access will be maintained for emergency vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, businesses andresidents.

On-road parking during this time will not be available and parents picking up their children from All Saints School in the afternoon will need to park at an alternative location. Discussions have been held with the school and this is being communicated to the parents.

The reactive patching work is in preparation for a major scheme in the New Year to resurface the length of Vicarage Road.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, the Cabinet Member for Highway Management and the local councillor for Sidmouth said: “This work is essential as it provides a stop gap in ensuring that the road remains safe ahead of a major scheme planned for early next year.

“Unfortunately there may well be some inconvenience caused by these works for which we apologise.”
