š Staying Safe and Supported During Hot Weather š
As temperatures rise, itās important that we all stay safe and look out for our more vulnerable neighbours ā especially older residents, young children, and those with health conditions. Hereās some essential advice and information about where to turn for help if the heat becomes more than just uncomfortable.
āļø Keep Cool and Stay Well
⢠Drink plenty of fluids ā even if you donāt feel thirsty.
⢠Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day (11amā3pm) and keep your home shaded.
⢠Use fans or a damp cloth to help cool down.
⢠Wear loose, light clothing and use sunscreen when outside.
š” Help with Electricity Costs
We understand that running fans or medical equipment in hot weather can cause bills to rise. If youāre a pensioner or on a low income, you may be eligible for help:
⢠Household Support Fund: East Devon District Council can provide short-term support for essentials like electricity and water bills.
š [Check eligibility and apply on the council website or by contacting their Customer Services Team.]
⢠Warm Home Discount: If you receive Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit), you may automatically get £150 off your electricity bill. The next round starts in October 2025.
⢠Priority Services Register: Sign up through your energy provider if you are of pension age or have a medical condition ā youāll get additional support like advance notice of planned outages and more.
⢠Speak to your energy supplier: Many offer hardship funds or payment plans if youāre struggling with rising costs.
š§ Letās Look Out for Each Other
If youāre concerned about someone who may be struggling during this hot spell ā especially an older neighbour ā check in with them, and encourage them to seek support if needed.
Letās stay safe, stay cool, and look after one another.
