Trial Pits were taken last Friday evening 30th April on the A375 Vicarage Road and lower section of Temple Street for the Materials Lab to establish the extent of the foundation problem which has failed at regular periods and dates back over 50 years ago.
It had been hoped to have resurfaced / reconstructed this the busiest road into Sidmouth in February, however the problem was identified.
Now technician engineers are working up the exact scheme required to ensure this problem is sorted once and for all and it looks more likely Geogrids will be required to bind the foundations before overlay is carried out and the estimated cost is in the region of over £1m .... Work will be programmed so not to disrupt Sidmouth Town Centre traders as we continue to come out of lockdown.
