Plans to permanently pedestrianize the New Street, Church Street, Market Place and Old Fore Street area of Sidmouth have received the approval by Devon County Council's Highways and Traffic Orders Committee.

The scheme which had initially been put in as part of a Covid Active Travel Scheme and which involved working in partnership with the Sidmouth Town Council and Chamber of Commerce had been well received by both locals and visitors to the town who said it had improved the whole shopping experience.

The Taxi rank will however be reinstated in New Street and Blue Badge holders will also have access along with local residents and delivery vehicles.

Its been very successful working with the Town Council and Chamber of Commerce on Phase 1 of the TMP and once the order has been sealed and signing put in place we will be able to move to Phase 2 which involves looking at various requests that have been received by members of the public, town councillors and Chamber...including introducing limited waiting on the Esplanade.
